Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is being lined up to be the face for the reboot of Universal's 'The Mummy' due to be released in March 2017.
Star Trek producer Alex Kurtzman is credited to be directing and producing alongside Sean Daniels who had a hand in producing the original trilogy. The script, to be written by Jon Spaihtz, of Prometheus fame, is set in the modern day unlike the original Brendan Fraser films which are set in the 1920s.
Assuming Cruise agrees to play the lead in the reboot, shooting is due to begin mid-February after Cruise has finished filming Jack Reacher sequel 'Never Go Back', and before he takes on the role of Ethan Runt again in ANOTHER Mission Impossible outing (number 6).
This reboot marks the beginning of Universal's plans to revamp it's monster catalogue which boasts the image rights to the likes of Frankenstein (and his bride), Dracula, the Invisible Man and Van Helsing the vampire hunter. Each character is expected to appear in other films in the style of the converging of the 'The Avengers'.
Do you think Tom Cruise will make a good egyptologist? Or should he stick to being a spy?
