Another stellar year for young black British musicians was celebrated on Wednesday, with Stormzy, J Hus, Stefflon Don, Dave and Giggs all taking home awards.
Maya Jama hosted the event (cheering on boyfriend Stormzy's hat trick), while social media stars Elijah Quashie aka the Chicken Connoisseur, and Michael Dapaah/Big Shaq were drafted in to announce winners.
The Gang Signs & Prayer rapper was undeniably crowned king of the ceremony, scooping up gongs for that album, as well as cleaning up in the best male artist and best grime act categories.
J Hus, meanwhile, bagged Best Song for his undeniably infectious summer hit 'Did You See', while Mist picked up the Best Video prize for 'Hot Property', a big budget extravaganza that saw the Birmingham rapper travel to Iceland and hang out with huskies. Giggs snuck in to scoop best hip hop act following his great year having worked with a host of U.S stars including 2 Chainz, Young Thug, and Drake.
While there was plenty for the UK underground to be pleased with on the night, though, it was disappointing to have only one female winner - Stefflon Don (Best Female Act) - especially considering that Jorja Smith, NAO and Little Simz had all secured nominations in other categories too.
One other notable absence from the nominations was Dizzee Rascal, whose recent LP Raskit had been seen by many as a return to form.
Recognition of Cardi B's brilliant 'Bodak Yellow' didn't come in the shape of an award (she was nominated for Best International Act) but fans were at least treated to a live performance from the New York star on the night. Needless to say, she nearly brought the roof down!
