Paranormal Activity 4: Review

Paranormal Activity has topped Box Office but could not meet up audience’s expectations.
Paranormal Activity franchise brings up the concept of ‘found footage’ which could be regarded as modern day horror phenomenon. With the success of last three parts, Matt Adcock’s Paranormal Activity 4 was expected to scare the audience in a deadly way however, unfortunately, it performed under expectations.
Though it topped the Box Office by making $30.2 million, it didn’t scrape together the numbers of audiences that the franchise usually attracts. Even Adcock’s fourth film was not able scare or impress the critical masses.
This fourth film is weak and lacks any real scares other than the occasional ‘jump’ moment. It goes back into the present day (well, last year) when the whereabouts of Katie and her nephew, Hunter, who she kidnapped a few years back, is still unknown.
Also, we meet a new family who experience a strange phenomenon in the house after youngster Robbie (Brady Allen) comes to stay after his mum is taken to hospital.
Teenager Alex (Kathryn Newton) seems to be targeted by the strange goings-on, and becomes increasingly worried about her six-year-old brother Wyatt (Aiden Lovekamp) when he starts exhibiting some odd behaviour. Of course, the parents think the explanation is simply her over-active teenage imagination.
The new family are basically here to do nothing but wonder about the odd kid and then probably die while the plot stumbles along. A Paranormal Activity fan said for the fourth film, “This movie escalates slowly to a crazy last two minutes which raises more questions than it answers.” Most of the audience felt that it doesn’t have storyline and doesn’t have anything new or even interesting.
It would be tragic if the series ended on this damp squib after starting so strongly, however Paramount has already announced that there will be a “Paranormal Activity 5” next October.
If Adcock could not come up with something interesting and frightening in the fifth part, the Paranormal Activity franchise might lose its gluing audience and might face loses next time.
