The Sweeney Tops UK Box Office

Other | Thursday 20th September 2012 | Osh

After its release last weekend, director Nick Love’s The Sweeney has gone straight to the top of the UK and Ireland box office chart.

The film is an adaptation of the popular 1970's detective show also named The Sweeney, created by Ian Kennedy Martin. Officer Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) and his partner George Carter (Ben Drew) are part of the Flying Squad, known for not following the rules and nailing criminals to the wall, which doesn’t go down too well with their boss Haskins (Damian Lewis). The stakes are raised when a bank heist suggests the return of an old adversary and we are drawn into an action packed thriller, as Regan will stop at nothing to bring this villain down.

Another new entry into the chart included ParaNorman, the 3D comedy animation which entered at number two, Anna Karenina was at number three and last week’s number one Dredd, fell four places to five. Here’s a full list of this week’s box office top 10:

1. The Sweeney - £1,545,294
