MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO this MAY JUNE

MAY-Dark Shadows- Tim Burton casts his eccentric spell over this new gothic horror film based on the cult TV series of the late ’60s. Johnny Depp takes the lead of Barnabas Collins, a vampire mistakenly unleashed by a member of a wealthy, mysterious family. Depp is clearly perfect for the role. Not only has he been a regular stalwart contributor to Burton films, but he’s allegedly admitted that he was once so besotted with Barnabas Collins that he ‘wanted to be him’. Rather interestingly, we see that the series’ original Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) is also listed among the cast credits

Men in Black III- As the promotional material will no doubt attest, they’re back, in black, again. It’s been a decade since the release of ‘Men in Black 2’, the quite fun but decidedly underwhelming sequel to the extremely fun and only slightly underwhelming original. Original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones resume their roles as J and K, the slick space-cops who protect Earth from all manner of alien beasties, with the legendary Rip ‘this bank is not my house!’ Torn returning as their mentor and minder, Zed. The big new addition to the cast this time is, bizarrely, Emma Thompson, following former hubby Kenny Branagh’s voyage into the mainstream, while Josh Brolin will also be appearing as a younger Jones, in a series of flashback scenes set in 1960s Manhattan (‘Mad Men in Black’, anyone?). Plot details are still scant, but we’re imagining it probably involves aliens doing something naughty, and our heroes stopping them, perhaps through the use of some impressive gadgetry.

JUNE- Snow White and the Huntsman- this Snow White tale focuses on her relationship with the Huntsman who is ordered to take her into the woods to be killed. Opting to protect her from the Evil Queen instead of doing the deed, the Huntsman and his milk-skinned sidekick take on the powers of the Queen. The casting for this has been the subject of fierce rumours: with Kristen Stewart announced in the central role, ‘The Huntsman’ part was linked to Viggo Mortensen and Hugh Jackman before ‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth accepted. Charlize Theron will play the Evil Queen.
