Flow Festival vs Way Out West
Tuesday 9th July 2013 | Vilma
Who would have predicted that two incredibly promising festivals are being held during the same weekend (8-11th August) in the midst of the stunning midnight sun. The question remains, which one to pick?
Flow Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in style in the Finnish capital of Helsinki while Way Out West looks just as exciting in the neighbouring country of Sweden. A reason for this might be the immense array of international talent displayed on both sides of the Baltic Sea. Numerous acts such as Solange, Disclosure and Azealia Banks are set to perform at both festivals so that Finnish as well as Swedish festival goers can enjoy their sets. The fun doesn’t stop there since Mount Kimbie recently announced their tour dates and will be playing in both countries that weekend as well as American rapper Kendrick Lamar and the always soulful Alicia Keys.
In addition to acts by local bands and DJs, there are some differences in the line ups of the two festivals, which is likely to be the ultimate decision breaker. AlunaGeorge and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are set to play at Flow Festival with a Kraftwerk 3D show finishing of the festivities on Sunday night! Way Out West, on the other hand, boasts the talents of great British acts such as Swim Deep, James Blake and Tom Odell.
A three day ticket to Flow costs around £130 while the weekend at Way out West is slightly more expensive at roughly £185. Both festivals pride themselves with film screenings, art installations as well as tasty food so you definitely get your money’s worth! Are you still not able to make up your mind? For those with a bit of extra cash, a combination of the Nordic cities is a must since flights are relatively cheap and it only takes about an hour to get from one city to the other. Problem solved!
