RAY BLK's 'Chill Out' Exposes The Transgender Women Defying Social Norms In Jamaica

RnB/Hip Hop | Wednesday 29th March 2017 | Josie

The sound of BBC 2017, nominated for a MOBO award and described as the UK’s answer to Lauyrn Hill, Ray BLK isn’t short of her share of accolades to mark her appearance on the British music scene.

Ray’s music draws inspiration from R&B, Soul and Hip Hop, merging slick raps with even slicker vocals. The result is a delightful and fresh sound that signals an exciting start to this new comer’s career.

Her track with SG Lewis 'Chill Out' is testimony to this talent and a brilliant example of collaborative music. Meshing electronic synths with R&B, it’s one of those songs that replays in your mind the moment it finishes.

The music video exposes the beauty and pain of the Gully Queens. Set in the midst of this proud, brutally oppressed and visually stunning LGBT community in Jamaica, the cinematography aims to translate Ray’s message of female empowerment. We should live life however we choose.

The Gully Queens, like Ray BLK, are electric and unforgettable.

Currently hitting a modest 252,295 views on youtube, it’s yet to really explode. But here at Guestlist we think it deserves a round of applause and, of course, a listen.
