Instead of average Independence Day celebrations, Lupe Fiasco decides to add his own fireworks by dropping his controversial three-part video on 4th July.
The trilogy titled ‘#1234’ consists of visuals for ‘Lamborghini Angels’ ‘ITAL (Roses)’ and ‘Audubon Ballroom’ which are tracks from his album Food And Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part 1. The video has a duration of 13 minutes as it unveils some of the social, racial and political issues that occur within society. Directed by Alex Nazari, the audio-visual begins with a few kaleidoscope dream images and then drifts into images of Fast food, racks of money, Jordans and flashy watches which display the materialistic items that members of society chase. To demonstrate the effect that this has on society, the video then appears to have a young black child watching these same images on to TV, who later gets arrested by a police officer. In contrast, a young white child then watches the same TV screen however unlike the first child, the kid is watching the news and documentaries on animals, this sends out a clear message on racism for viewers.
The video then concludes with visuals of a boardroom conference involving a priest, a grandmother, a teacher, a gangster, a KKK member, an executive boss and a few others. They argue over the images that the young black kid was watching on TV earlier on in the video. As they all have conflicting views, the conference ends in a bad manner. This is then followed by Lupe dancing around in a KKK outfit.
This video has a strong message ethos and is definitely a MUST SEE!
