Reggae | Thursday 13th October 2016 | Annalisa Black Lives Matter blackoutldn che scott heron Speech Debelle After a year of marches, protests and demonstrations, Black Out LDN present #BlackLivesMatter - The Event, to show that young people in the UK are free thinkers, creatives & entrepreneurs. Saturday 22nd October will see Brixton Jamm packed with some amazing, young talent and bringing together the organisations and individuals that agree #BlackLivesMatter. The day is hosted by Mercury Music prize winner, Speech Debelle. DJs Kai Gama & Dr. Sydney Velvet of The Insomniax will get on deck duty. There will be live performances throughout the day from Boy Blue Ent, along with some special guests. Che Scott-Heron is scheduled to read a poem by her father Gil Scott-Heron in the opening of the event, in an act which commemorates one of the greatest black poets and musicians who ever lived. The earnings from the event will go to supporting those directly affected by race inequality/deaths in custody in the UK, including the UFFC - the United Families and Friends Campaign (UFFC). The group is a coalition of those affected by deaths in police, prison and psychiatric custody. It supports others in similar situations. Established in 1997, it was initially a network of Black families but over recent years the group has expanded and now includes the families and friends of people from varied ethnicities who have died in custody.
