KRS-One: 'Racism In The United States Is Overflowing'

Hip-Hop legend KRS-One has always been an artist who has tackled social issues through his music, but in a recent interview he has hit out at the government and police in America for institutionalised racism.
KRS-One stated that ‘Things have gotten worse because we have an African-American President, and it seems like racism in the United States is overflowing.’ He went further claiming that ‘There’s no order in The United States, so now there’s lawlessness.’
Speaking to CNN, KRS-One spoke about the tragic death of Trayvon Martin in police custody, an incident that has had a large scale impact on the African-American community, sparking the growing #BlackLivesMatter movement that protests against the treatment of black citizens in the United States.
The South Bronx rapper has been addressing violence in the African-American community since the 1980’s and has tried to positively change perceptions of Hip-Hop music.
It was KRS-One who notably started the ‘Stop The Violence Movement’ and released the charity single ‘Self-Destruction’ featuring some of the biggest names in East Coast rap.
KRS-One said that challenges such as the crack cocaine epidemic that had affected the US while he was growing up in the 80’s had not eased, claiming that no one currently has any power to change the poor conditions people in urban areas live in.
Speaking on the Presidential Election he claimed that the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter’ was being exploited by politicians who wanted to connect with African-American voters and that the number one issue of police brutality had not been correctly addressed.
