Just when you thought you’d heard it all – Adil Omar is back!

The last time we heard from Adil Omar he had just performed an electrifying London show and dropped the ultra-violent video for ‘Exploding Heart’. Fast forward nine months or so and the boundary pushing rapper from Pakistan is back with something completely different for our listening pleasure. Never one to stagnate, Adil has evolved his sound further by teaming up with the equally innovative producer Talal Qureshi, creating Saturday Night Killing Machine, an EP that can only be described as a sonic assault on your mind and soul. While Talal provides a more danceable soundtrack and Adil’s vocal delivery is more accessible than his previous hardcore flow, the trademark wit and rebelliousness is still there and stronger than ever.
Musically, the beats are powerful and hard hitting. Talal clearly isn’t afraid to play around with conventions; jumping seamlessly from dance floor filling electro to darker industrial sounding music without ever missing a beat. Adil Omar adapts his unique rhyme style perfectly for this electronic backdrop. Lyrically he successfully manages to provoke and entertain in equal measures. There is an underlying anger and political charge, which remains a constant theme but is never overwhelming, and the interesting array of international guest vocalists keeps the record sounding bold and refreshing.
It would be easy to simply label Saturday Night Killing Machine as an EDM side project but it is so much more than that. This is two artistic minds from Pakistan coming together to create a musical journey with enough mass appeal to cater to the worldwide market and enough creativity to set it aside from anything else out there. In simple terms this is the next step in the duo’s voyage of world domination.
The video for the first single ‘Nighat & Paras’ sees Adil Omar making his directorial debut. In a perfect representation of the song and the EP as a whole we are treated to a plethora of colourful imagery and energetic performances from the duo.
