Weekend of winners - Breakspoll Awards
Monday 4th March 2013 | Alfie
Cable was electric (excuse the pun) on Saturday night for the 12th Breakspoll awards.
As you would expect, the place was rammed from wall to wall - but unlike most packed out events, there was never any animosity within the bustling crowd. The mood inside was high and the bass was low for the award ceremony that breakbeat fans had been waiting for all year.
The awards themselves were hosted in the comedy stylings of High Rankin, with a few surprises were amongst the gongs. The biggest winner of the night was Lady Waks, walking away with three awards (Best Track, Best Producer & Best Radio Show). Previously Krafty Kuts took the Best DJ trophy but this year swapped it for Best Album.... A-Skillz picked up Best DJ. Guestlist favourite and stalwart of the scene, Dub Pistols, won a thoroughly deserved Best Live Act award - something that I doubt any fan could contend.
As well as the award show itself, the live acts that graced the night didn't disappoint. The mash of upfront breakbeat, electro, drum and bass didn't give the crowd any breathing space. Some serious dancing was done underneath those arches. All in all, a fantastic night - well hosted by the people behind the scenes at Cable and the whole Breakspoll team - I can't wait for next year.
