Cat Power regrets that she might have to cancel upcoming UK tour due to bankruptcy and health problems
Today the immensely talented and soulful singer uploaded a photo on Instagram, along with the message: “I may have to cancel my European tour due to bankruptcy and my health struggle with angioedema. I have not thrown in any towel, I am trying to figure out what best I can do. Heart broken. Worked so hard. Got sick day after ‘Sun’ came out and been struggling to keep all points of me in equilibrium: mind, spirit, body healthy, centered and grounded. I am doing the best I can. I fucking love this planet. I refuse to give up. Though I may need to restrategise for my security and health."
Cat Power was due to headline London’s Roundhouse this December as part of a full European tour. This one-off performance would have been her first UK show in four years, following the release of her ninth album Sun in September. Cat Power previously cancelled her tour of The Greatest in 2006 to recover from what she described at a ‘psychotic break’ caused by alcohol abuse and mental exhaustion.
Marshall has always been extremely open about her turbulent and at times tragic personal life and her past problems with long term depression and alcohol abuse. But Sun’s more upbeat sound and Marshall’s less erratic stage performances of late suggested the singer was battling her demons. This rambling confession on instagram, however, alludes to both her financial troubles and the singer’s struggle with a skin condition called Angioedema, indicating that she is far from well.
