Macy Gray re-invents Stevie Wonder's 'Talking Book'

Monday 15th October 2012 | Osh

Grammy Award-winning artist Macy Gray will be performing Talking Book in full at Camden’s heritage venue KOKO, on 20th December. Her latest album is a ‘love letter’ to Stevie Wonder, which consists in a re-imagined version of Wonder’s timeless album, Talking Book - out the 30th October- coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the original recording. The artist pointed out that: “This is not a tribute album or concert; it's a love letter and a big thank you card on record and on stage.” Stevie Wonder had a huge influence in her music. During the show, Grey will also perform some of her classics.

Original Steve Wonder’s album was a success back in 1972. The 10 track multi-platinum album, which included classics such as ‘Sunshine of My Life’ and ‘Superstition’ got Steve 3 Grammy awards. Macy’s reinterpretation of Talking Book, which will be released under 429 Records/Savoy Label Group, is the particular way that she has to thank the outstanding musician for the huge positive influence he had on her career and her music, as well as artists like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin.

American soul singer and songwriter, Macy Gray, who had been hitting the top of spot with songs such as ‘I Try’ or ‘Sexual Revolution’, has also collaborated with renamed artists such as Santana, Black Eyed Peas and Bobby Brown.

If you can’t wait until the 20th December to see Gray in action, she will also perform on the 18th November with saxophonist David Murray’s roaring big band at the Barbican as part of the London Jazz Festival.
