This month, Guestlist is all about ‘ambitious activities’....Yazzy went down to Baker Street for a try at Bridal Henna designs, with Henna-H. Here’s how it went down...
Not far from Bakerloo Station, lies a dress shop. Not just any dress shop, an Indian Bridal Boutique, with tailormade styles from designers across the globe. As soon as you enter you are struck with beautiful colours and fabrics. What makes this place even more intriguing, is the downstairs. We (the students for the next 4 hours), sat metres away from an Indian fashion shoot for G.O.T.V.. A lot agwarn here!
With a quiet class of only five, we sat amongst the stunning works of Halimah, our teacher and entertainer for the session: and a woman of many hidden talents!
We were given cones filled with Henna, i gathered they were made of foil, and strengthened with cellotape. Then Halimah showed us simple designs, or ‘bricks’, that would eventually build the final product....Now... you would not think it is as hard as it is! Even the simplest of tasks was tricky, especially with a shaky hand! But soon enough, i (sort of) managed to make a bodge flower design. Other ‘bricks’ included a lovely paisley leaf with added shading, a whole load of things called ‘curvey wurvey’s’ and many blodges.
A very fun, hands on session, made all the more exciting with Halimah’s stories and ‘handy’ tips...
Lovely, easing atmosphere, and i’m totally chuffed with my improvement in only a few hours! All the other girls did really well too. I recommend this for anyone who likes to learn new things, you don’t have to be arty farty, just be patient and attentive to detail, and you’ll soar!
