Indian electronic pioneer returns with a genre-blurring single
Equal parts euphoric and conflicted, 'Get You Back' explores the push and pull of desire, uncertainty, and timing. Conflicted yet cohesive, it captures the moment when head and heart fall out of sync but you’re still dancing anyway.
“Get You Back is what happens when a dancefloor anthem gets tangled up in its own feelings,” says Bakshi. “It’s bouncy, driving, dreamy, and just a little ridiculous, enough to keep bodies moving and hearts confused. The whole thing feels like a high-speed chase scene where you're fleeing from a solitary-flower-wielding pursuer who wants you back, but it's too little, too late.”
Written during a bout of creative restlessness, the track began with acoustic drums, bass guitar, and a jam-like groove. But soon, the gravitational pull of the club crept back in. Rather than choosing between live-band warmth and dancefloor heft, Bakshi let both live side by side. The result is a shape-shifting track, part band, part banger, that flips moods and drum kits mid-song, echoing the emotional duality at its core.
Bakshi's career gained serious momentum in the mid-2010s with the breakout success of his debut LP Doppelganger, a record that redefined the possibilities of Indian electronica while resisting easy categorisation. As one of the first artists in India to fuse live instrumentation with electronic production, he quickly became a figurehead for a scene still in its infancy.
That breakout era also shaped his role as co-founder of boxout.fm, India’s leading independent radio platform, where he played a key part in building the ecosystem that supports the country’s next generation of artists. After his initial rise, Bakshi took a deliberate eight-year break from full-length releases.
His return in 2024 with the critically acclaimed third album 'When We Get There' marked both a culmination and a fresh chapter. The record embraced a more contemplative, emotionally nuanced sound and was followed by standout single Take Me Home ft. Ramya Pothuri.
Alongside this musical shift came an ambitious new Live A/V show, which has seen Bakshi perform at SXSW Sydney, Wonderfruit Festival, Lollapalooza Mumbai, and Magnetic Fields, sharing stages with global acts like Bonobo, Caribou, and Fatboy Slim, all while remaining deeply rooted in India’s creative underground.
