Tomorrow the dancehall veteran that is Shabba ranks will be performing for the first time in 11 years.
Reggae Sumfest, which is one of many reggae festivals, has had special attention because of Mr Lover Lover. With two Grammys for best reggae album he is definitely a seasoned exponent of the genre.
The festival will take place in Montego Bay, Jamaica where he and other superstar players in the game Aidonia and Ishawna will tear up the stage for 2 nights to welcome back the mack daddy of reggae dancehall.
Why should you give a shit? Because, Shabba Ranks is still one of the few reggae/dancehall artists who made a deep impact in the commercial world without any compromise. He made beats that enthralled every kind of person in clubs bars and bedrooms throughout the 80’s and the 90’s. His countless hits, to name a few, contain the hip moving sounds of Bedroom Bully, Trailer Load and Ting a Ling.
And who can forget Mr. Loverman, I certainly won't, as a deep and dearest memory of mine was being at my mother's hen party when all of a sudden the Shabba Ranks anthem came on and out came the stripper my aunt had sent for. Watching an oiled up man grind all over your mother to Mr. Loverman? Priceless. Thank you Shabba.
