USB Device To Revolutionise Third-World Technology

Other | Tuesday 9th December 2014 | Matt

Two aspiring entrepreneurs, Nissan Bahar and Franky Imbesi, have raised $40,000 through crowdfunding site Indiegogo to develop the Keepod, a revolutionary USB device aimed at ‘bridging the digital divide’. Keepod can revive non-functional laptop or tablet devices as it contains a desktop version of Google’s mobile operating system, making it possible for impoverished communities to connect to the internet for the first time.

This initiative has already been tested in schools in Nairobi as a non-profit scheme, but Bahar and Imbesi hope to sustain their programme by making a small profit, charging only $7 dollars for a single device. The idea is to issue individuals with their own Keepod device so they can connect on the go. As technology is a prerequisite for any developed country, this enterprise could potentially create new economic opportunities for the digitally disadvantaged countries of the third-world.
