Buggs Tha Rocka is the newest rapper out of Cincinnati, who already has a hip hop legend singing his praises. Guestlist caught up with Buggs to find out how he plans to follow up such a great year.
1 - Describe your current state of mind in 5 words or less.
Scattered, anxious, excited, focused, determined.
2 - Who is Buggs Tha Rocka, to his mother, to his fans and to himself?
Eclectic, free spirited and fearless. Also compassionate.
3 - What is the wildest thing that has happened to you so far?
Going to Amsterdam and having fans there. It blew my mind was my first time overseas
4 - What made you decide to make your upcoming album available for free download from your website?
It's a different time, nobody's buying music anymore. So in this case I'd rather people get the music for free, make it available to everyone so they know the songs and want to support in other ways, like come to the shows and buy merchandise. I want to really connect with the people, the "space invaders" as we call the people in our movement. There's no reason not to have the music.
5 - Tell us about your bond with Talib Kweli, what advice and support has he given you?
Talib Kweli is one of my favorite wordsmiths in the game, a legend. To have him co-sign me is unbelievable. Basically the best advice is to believe in what you do even if no one does at first, and be original.
6 - You have worked with the likes of Hi Tek and Donte, do you ever have "fangirl" moments?
No. And I think that's why we vibe. I already felt I deserved to be in that type of circle with skilled and respected artist everyday. I do sit back and realize how blessed I am though
7 - If you could be anyone else for the day, who would you be?
Kanye West, seems he lives a pretty dope life lol
8 - Other than music what are you most passionate about?
My kids, animals, and travelling.
9 - What’s top of your bucket list?
Win a Grammy, move all my family out and take all my loved one to travel the world together.
10 - At what point does ‘the artist’ as a commodity intersect with ‘the artist’ behind the music?
Yo honestly it's a on going battle, it never stops. It's a business, they are looking out for their investment not your creativity and freedom as an artist with personal views on the world. So sometimes you're forced to compromise your art for sales. They are gonna go with whoever or whatever the priority is at the time, so as far as labels go, it's a gift and curse.
11 - What’s next for Buggs Tha Rocka?
Touring off this new project and getting this record out to the world is my biggest priority.
