Ears to the (under)ground: Bristol's beatchefs Egg & Cress

RnB/Hip Hop | Tuesday 13th June 2017 | Alex

Up-and-coming Bristol production team Egg & Cress are nothing if not imaginative.

In the best traditions of hip-hop performativity, they have each invented and adopted the personas of four washed-up celebs – Keefy Chegz, Dez Lennis, Oi Joybison and Lionel Vinyl.

But really and truly it's the music they are creating that's really going to make them a force to be reckoned with.

Egg & Cress rep a style combining a lush and layered sound that often draws from east coast rap, grime (and some of their even more bass-saturated cousins) with a wrap-around culinary concept. The team wield Ableton Live 9, Technics 1210s, a Pioneer DJM600, a Mackie 1402 mixing desk, various hardware FX pedals and of course their trusty microphones... Oh and a potato masher to cause maximum havoc in the midst of the eternally thriving Bristol music scene!

Their debut album dropped last month featuring a slew of bangers that taste like pure summer, all washed down with a heavy dose of West Country hip-hop swagger. And actually the boys are currently looking for vocalists, so if you like what you hear as much as we do at Guestlist, get in touch with them on Facebook!

Press play on this masterful mash-up mix from the crew below, featuring music from the likes of Faze Miyake, Thelonious Monk, Massive Attack, Lou Reed and Skream, blended with with acapellas including SLK, Dimples, the Godfather Wiley and LL Cool J!

You can cop the album *eggsquisite meal deal here and check out a live streamed performance here.
