Lady Leshurr set to put the scene on shutdown

RnB/Hip Hop | Wednesday 7th June 2017 | Alex

Following the release of her Mode EP in spring this year, the Brummy-born and now London-based rapper Lady Leshurr has cemented her place as one of the most prominent vocalists in contemporary UK music.

Few would have failed to notice the Lady grafting away over the years, building her own spot and identity. Combining a battle MC's razor-sharp lyrical wit with a solid grasp of the grime sound (she's been spitting since 2009), she's nonetheless developed a reputation as an artist with a distinctive identity of her own - not beholden to any one vibe or scene.

A recent performance at London's Field Day festival, alongside the likes of Abra, Flying Lotus and Aphex Twin, demonstrates the extent to which she's managed to step outside of grime's normal milieu. In fact, she was just about the only British rapper on the line-up, besides that man Loyle Carner.

It was her series of Queen's Speech freestyles in 2015 that initially brought her to the attention of a wider audience. However, when Number 4 in the series became a viral sensation (it's since racked up nearly 43M views), major labels obviously started to take note.

Now, with Sony subsidiary RCA Records behind her, it is definitely starting to look like the 28-year-old has the opportunity to really and truly represent for all the ladies and our beloved hustle and bustle nation.

We just saw her rock the house at Field Day in Victoria Park and next she is to join some heavyweights at the Fresh Island Festival this July.
