Trailer For Peter Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old Displays The First World War In Colour

Other | Monday 1st October 2018 | David

The first trailer for director Peter Jackson's upcoming World War One documentary They Shall Not Grow Old has debuted online, and it features colorised footage directly from the battlefield of the conflict which cost over thirty-five million lives.

Announced several months ago, most of the footage used in They Shall Not Grow Old comes from the archives of both the BBC and the Imperial War Museum, with Jackson himself saying that the film “aims to give these men voices, investigate the hopes and fears of the veterans, the humility and humanity that represented a generation changed forever by a global war.”

Jackson, who won three Oscars for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has dedicated large part of his life to preserving the memory of the First World War, and even owns several planes WWI fighter planes, which are on display at the The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in New Zealand, so this documentary is clearly very close to his heart.

They Shall Not Grow Old will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 16, and will then screen across cinemas and schools in the UK, before being broadcast on BBC One. It is hugely important not to forget the sacrifices made by those who served during the First World War, so this could be one of the most meaningful films of the year, and is should be viewed at least once. If you are hoping to catch it on the big screen, you can get your tickets here.
