What To Watch This Week - 23rd November

Other | Monday 23rd November 2015 | Sam

This week's 'What To Watch' is a pretty tough one. Usually, upon compiling the list of films you have to see this week, the quality of films coming out makes it difficult to only pick five... however this week, it was considerably more difficult to choose, with absolute classics being released like the Turkish made 'Ali Baba and the 7 Dwarves' and 'Unbranded' - a story about riding across America on horseback.

23rd November 2015 -

Being AP (Anthony Wonke) - Documentary
A.P. McCoy, one of Britain's most celebrated sportsmen opens up his life to the camera for the final season of his horse-racing career. Sports fans will revel in seeing the expert jockey behind-the-scenes; struggling with injury privately at home, celebrating victory in the public eye and deciding when to bring the curtain down on his glittering career.

26th November 2015 -

Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg) - Biography | Drama | History | Thriller
In Spielberg's latest release, Tom Hanks plays an American lawyer given the task of defending an arrested Soviet spy in the courtroom, and assisting in the negotiations for the release of an American spy pilot from the Soviet Union. Based on real events, expect a thrilling story told in a classic Spielberg style! Contender for film of the month for sure.

27th November 2015 -

Black Mass (Scott Cooper) - Biography | Crime | Drama
One look of Johnny Depp in this story of crime and deception, based on true events, will be enough to give you nightmares for weeks. Black Mass looks to be another contender for film of the month, exposing the life of Whitey Bulger, South Boston's most violent criminal ever/ FBI informant, trying to take down a Mafia family who have invaded his turf. This is said to be one of Depp's finest performances on screen! Those contact lenses though... Jesus.

Carol (Todd Haynes) - Drama | Romance
An all-star cast including Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara and Kyle Chandler head up a story of a 1950s department-store clerk who falls in love with an older married woman who's in a loveless marriage. The story is all about defying social norms of the time - female empowerment and homosexual relationships are the forefront of a film. Although it will be categorised as a LGBT film, the focus is more about the human connection between two people who fall in love with each other. Lovely.

The Good Dinosaur (Peter Sohn) - Animation | Adventure | Comedy | Family | Fantasy
This really is one for the kids. The Good Dinosaur is based on the idea that the asteroid which wiped out the dinosaurs missed the Earth, leaving the dinosaurs to cohabitate with humans. In classic Disney fashion, Arlo, the Apatosaurus goes on a journey with a young human boy, and discovers his true potential while learning to conquer his fears.
