10 health problems that cannabis can help you solve

Other | Monday 4th June 2018 | Paul

The United Kingdom is the world's largest producer of legal cannabis. We make over half of all medical marijuana. In 2016 alone 95 tonnes of marijuana was produced for tests and medicine!

Let us be clear. With 95 tonnes, you could build about seven Big Bens made out of weed. So is it normal that the government says that cannabis has no medical use and yet still be the biggest ganja producer at the same time? In any case, it’s weird.

However, public opinion around the world is changing, more and more about the consumption of weed. Twenty-nine states in America including Washington DC, have legalized marijuana for medicinal use. The legal cannabis market is expected to generate $40 billion by 2021 in the United States and over 400,000 hires. It is legal and above all profitable, furthermore there has already been countless stories of cannabis helping people with health problems:

Epilepsy

There is a lot of stories where the drug has been effective in getting rid of epileptic seizures. The most recent of these happened in America, in Georgia, one of the US states that has not yet allowed medical use of cannabis. The parents lost custody of their son for treating his severe epilepsy with cannabis.

Okay, you're right, that was illegal. But their son could have up to ten seizures a day. With weed, he didn't have a seizure for 71 days. Until the mother talked to the psychologists about it, who themselves notified social services. Which resulted in one week in jail, and an ongoing trial to try to recover custody of the child… We hope that the parents win and their child can get effective treatment.

Leukaemia

Claire Blackwell from Watton, Norfolk decided to give cannabis to her son, Deryn, as he was suffering from a rare, aggressive form of leukaemia, to ease his pain and anxiety as he lay dying in a hospice. After seeing this request for medical cannabis denied she went to a drug dealer. She added, “I thought, ‘what have I got to lose? He’s dying anyway’. The effects of it blew my mind. It wasn’t what I expected,”

Deryn, who is now 17, made a gradual recovery and is now studying catering and has a part-time job as a vegan chef. In ya face, leukaemia!

HIV

The effects of HIV treatment can range from diarrhoea to muscle contractures, depression or suicidal impulses. Dominic, 54, says "I smoke pure grass - it gives me an appetite first. Then I use it as a muscle relaxant and keeps my spirits up. It replaces at least four or five pills of my traditional treatment and I have no side effects.

Dominic's consumption of weed has enabled him to significantly reduce his consumption of opiates prescribed by his doctor. Weed is not healing HIV, however, it can improve your daily life if you have a serious illness.

Alzheimer's

Cannabis is one of the few plants that contains omega-3 fatty acids that lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists have mostly suggested, in a study published in the Alzheimer's Disease Review, that low doses of THC slow down the production of beta-amyloid proteins, which generally accumulate to create plaques in the brain and is a known feature of Alzheimer's disease.

PTSD

Like any plant, marijuana can have side effects. For new users, too much can cause anxiety or arrhythmia. For those who consume it regularly and in small quantities, knowing their limits, marijuana is synonymous with relaxation, calming and can even distil happiness in small quantities. This is great news for PTSD sufferers.

PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), can be reduced with marijuana. The latest research conducted in 2013 on this subject proves that one finds fewer cannabinoids in brains magnetized by fear and anxiety. The research found that smoking marijuana increases the cannabinoids in these areas of the brain. The US Department of Health has just approved tests surrounding this subject.

In Switzerland alone, a pioneer country in the use of marijuana for therapeutic purposes, the rate of prison suicide has dropped by 10% since the use of marijuana has been allowed in prisons.

Anorexia

In France, Dronabinol is an approved drug for the treatment of AIDS-related anorexia. Dronabinol contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a cannabis psychotropic. The molecule binds to a cannabinoid receptor, increasing appetite.

Some recent studies suggest that the endocannabinoid system regulates metabolism as well as food intake. More specifically, the results obtained in rats showed that the endocannabinoid system is involved in the foraging impulse as well as in the pleasure proven during food intake. In a way, it regulates the sensations of wanting and loving to eat…

Reducing pain

Cannabis acts in the body through two main substances - THC and cannabidiol (CBD). They can have a pain-relieving effect. Thus, in the case of neurogenic pain, linked to a lesion or dysfunction of the nervous system (for example shingles, diabetes, cerebrovascular accident or multiple sclerosis), the use of cannabis allows, in approximately one patient out of five, to reduce the intensity of pain by approximately 30%. In cancer-related pain, studies have shown a decrease of at least 30% in about 40% of patients.

Researchers at the University of San Diego have shown that "smoked cannabis is generally well tolerated and effective in reducing pain in people who do not respond to other drugs. This is also the case if it is associated with analgesic treatment in patients with HIV and predominantly sensitive distal polyneuropathy.

Alcohol

A study found that drinkers who smoked grass were significantly less likely to develop liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, steatosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, including some liver cancers

Sex

Having sex while high is a great thing. Cannabis is a natural aphrodisiac and you can find a lot of sexual products containing weed, like lubricants. It allows individuals to be less anxious and more comfortable.

Of course, weed is not the magical recipe for anything and everything. There isn't one anyway. But weed can help several people live a better life by many different means. The fact that the study of cannabis has become common again in laboratories after a long period of denial from all over the world is a good thing.

Disclaimer: What you have read is not a "pro-weed" article. It is simply that we see a lot of inconsistency and hypocrisy on this subject, it seems logical to want to restore balance in the conversation about weed. This plant is cool if you do cool stuff with it. So, be nice, take care of your lungs and chill.
