Paul Kalkbrenner is a German electronic musician from Berlin. 2012 secured the DJ’s career to having tallied up more than 17 years of experience as a producer and live act. In 2004, Kalkbrenner released an album in collaboration with BPitch called Self. This album gained a strong momentum giving the artist his own original sound; which was full of melodic story uniquely telling an emotionally deep narrative to the listener. The album introduced a new kind of sound, one that was instantly noticed by German director Hannes Stöhr. In 2006 Stöhr contacted Kalkbrenner and pitched him the idea of producing a film about a techno musician from Berlin at the time of the new millennium, Stöhr’s request was that Kalkbrenner compose the soundtrack. After exchanging ideas and beginning the screenplay, Stöhr had an epiphany that Kalkbrenner should not only compose the music for the film, but star in it and Kalkbrenner accepted immediately. The film was titled ‘Berlin Calling’.
Kalkbrenner teamed up with BPitch friend Sascha Funke, and spent six months in Aix-En-Provence in the south of France to work on the soundtrack. Other well recieved tracks include Azure, The Night, Aaron, and Mango.
The soundtrack was an epic success especially the single ‘Sky and Sand’ with vocals by Kalkbrenner’s brother Fritz went gold in Belgium.
