1. Sherane A.K.A Master Splinter's Daughter
Is a classical story telling track which describes a relationship to a girl in south central L.A. Kendrick Lamar fills the track with a lot of details and images that helps the hearer to understand how complicate it is to grow up as a young black man in South central Los angeles who tries to make the normal experiences of a teenager.
2. Bitch don't kill my vibe
produced by Sounwave is a deep road into Kendrick lamar's soul, without jumping on the usual stereotypes like weed, bitches and money Kendrick Lamar manages it to combine his true feelings with the I don't give a fuck mentality of a west coast rapper.
3. Kendrick Lamar - Backseat Freestyle
On Backseat Freestyle Kendrick shows his skills which are really impressive and he gives a little insight what his attitude looks like and what kind of lines he would spit driving around through the hood with his homeboys.
4. Kendrick Lamar – The Art of Peer Pressure
The song is about Peer Pressure and describes how the surrounding of your friends makes you take decisions you normally wouldn't. It also shows the attitude of Lamar’s Generation and describes a normal day of a Compton kid.
5. Kendrick Lamar - Money Trees feat Jay Rock
One line of Jay Rock says :"Pots with cocaine residue, everyday I'm hustling
What else is a thug to do when you eatin' cheese from the government" This statement describes pretty good what the track is about. It let us see behind the curtain how it is to grow up without money in a materialistic world and a neighborhood full of drugs and gang members, where violence and quick money are the only way to get the things we all are looking for: girls, power and respect.
6. Kendrick Lamar feat Drake – Poetic Justice
Poetic Justice comes along with a real chill out instrumental to hang out with your girl. Nevertheless the lyrics of the song are very deep and ambiguous which creates a very interesting contrast. Drake is the perfect feature for the track and helps to raise the lyrical vibe of the track even more.
7. Kendrick Lamar - good kid
Being a Person who is against violence and who don't want to be part of a Gang made it difficult for Kendrick lamar to find his stance. On the track good Kid he shows that his soul nevertheless was strong enough to create his own attitude beside of Compton’s stereotypes and he lets all the feelings that he collected over the years out on this track in a manner that only a lyrical mastermind is able to.
8. Kendrick Lamar - m.A.A.d city feat Mc Eight
Booom! This Track is absolutely crazy. Words can't even describe the feeling that the tracks transmits when it hits your earphones. The instrumental changes from a new school type of beat to an classical N.W.A Westcoast instrumental and ends up to mix the both styles in a way the world has never seen.Mc Eight at the end sharing the views of a Compton OG makes the track complete.
9. Kendrick Lamar – Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst
The song is divided in two sections which most of the rappers out there would use as single tracks because they are that strong on their own. In the first part of the song Kendrick speaks for some people that he want to represent, now that he has the power to do it. The second part describes his confused thoughts but still he creates an image that is straight on the point.
10. Kendrick Lamar – Real feat Anna Wise
Real- one of the most used words in Hip Hop. But what is real? This song is Kendricks answer to this complicated question. And he delivers the best answer you can give - none. Real has a lot of facets which include the things you love and you hate and Kendrick spits a summary of this topic, in his typical manner by just sharing his "real" thoughts.
11. Kendrick Lamar – Compton featuring Dr. Dre
Compton is a song where he and Dr.Dre celebrate themselves and the city where they have their game from. It describes the rise and shine of two men who started from nothing in a city where there are not a lot of opportunities but where there are definitely enough inspiring stories that you can use to make a beautiful song like "Compton"
12. Kendrick Lamar – Black Boy Fly
Black Boy fly is a very harmonic song that tells us about the role models Kendrick Lamar had when he was young and how he felt jealous of them because he thought that he never will make it out of Compton like they did. It is a song that gives hope to all the young people out there that think their dreams are impossible to reach, because he is the best example for the opposite.
13. Kendrick Lamar – Now or Never featuring Mary J. Blige
Now or never is the typical "we are living our dream" song. Mary J and Kendrick are talking about the glamour live and created a typical radio song.
14. Kendrick Lamar – Collect Calls
Collect calls describes the difficult mother and son relationship of a criminal. The instrumental and the lyrics are very dramatic and are giving a feeling what it is about when the purest form of love is getting destroyed because of a gangster lifestyle.
The Bottom line is that Kendrick created a sound which will make him one of the leader of the young generation of Hip Hop Artists. He follows the footsteps of Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle), The Game ( Doctors Advocate) and many other big West Coast Artists who set a milestone with their first albums. The Album is for all the people that thought Hip Hop is already dead because Kendrick proved the opposite and showed that the new generation of Rappers has a lot of Skills to offer.
