The Weeknd is for sex – new album release

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 18th October 2012 | Mary-Cate

Since early last year The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) has been bringing us enchanting R&B sounds. At only 22 years old the Canadian artist of Ethiopian decent got his break after uploading some of his tracks to YouTube at the end of 2010.

He released a free album on this website called House of Balloons which received worldwide acclaim. Soon after he released the mixtape Thursday (below) and late last year another, Echoes of Silence. Many of The Weeknd’s songs are purely enchanting and deeply emotive. His songs seem to have a sense of desperation about them and you can feel the sense of longing in this voice. If you haven’t already, listen to the tracks ‘Thursday’, ‘The Zone’ and ‘High for This’ and you’ll see what I mean. These are the type of songs that are best listened to on a lazy Sunday in bed when it’s raining. It’s been called sex music and there is definitely something undeniably tantalizing about The Weeknd’s sound.

The new album will be released on November 13 by Universal Republic Records together with The Weeknd’s very own label XO. The record will include three brand new songs as well as remastered versions of all of his previous projects. Watch this space.
