Nothing short of a fine night of good hip-hop
Very rarely have I set foot in Proud galleries with high expectations; having grown accustomed to the cliquey environment and the uninspiring mainstream music, my nights there have been mediocre to say the least.
However, when the first song that’s playing when you set foot past the bouncer is ‘Gin & Juice’, you know that you’ve stumbled into something special. Granted there were no more than a handful of people scattered across the main dance floor, but that certainly took nothing away from the high calibre of tunes that the DJ was blaring out: covering everything from G-funk to Biggie, throwing in some fresh new heavy stuff that to create a perfect mix for any hip hop fan and at times breaking out some scratching to put the cherry on the cake.
At times I felt so lost in the music that it didn’t bother me one bit to handover four quid for a basic bottle of Stella, and the absence of a substantial crowd just meant that it was easier to appreciate the quality of what was being played. After the DJ finished I felt compelled to congratulate him and ask him for an interview, check out our website for a Trueskills interview coming up soon. I left the venue feeling quite pleased with myself: I now know my Monday nights can forever be decent and it didn’t cost me a thing to get in.
