Yesterday the music world was saddened by the news that drummer Jon Brookes had passed away at just 44 years of age. Jon was the founding member of influential indie rock band The Charlatans. Jon had suffered a seizure while the band was on tour in 2010 and had been receiving treatment for a brain tumour, but he sadly has not been able to recover and passed away on Tuesday morning with his family at his beside.
West Midlands based band The Charlatans were formed in 1989 and have released 11 albums to date, as well as gaining 22 UK top 40 hits. They have been widely credited as influential figures to many modern indie bands including, 'The Maccabees' and 'Childhood'. Jon was a prominent figure in the bands success, with his unique drumming style, and his creative lyrics which yielded popular hits such as 'The only one I know', 'How high' and 'One to another' to name but a few.
After hearing the news, lead singer of The Charlatans Tim Burgess tweeted 'Jon Brookes, my friend, our drummer and inspiration to so many, passed away this morning. We are torn apart. Love & thoughts to Jon's family'.
