Indie group Noah and the Whale receive the presidential seal of approval.

Obama’s campaign playlist was recently released to the public - well, the percentage of the public who are Spotify members. Despite a new interview revealing that the president prefers Jay-Z to Kanye (calling the latter a talented “jackass”) neither are on the 29 song long list. Instead, there’s old favourites like Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together, which not only works as a plea to the American public come voting day, but is a song the president recently covered with style.
Indie fans are in for a surprise, though: the most powerful man in the world shares their taste. British bands Florence + the Machine and Noah and the Whale have both received the presidential seal of approval. Florence’s cover of You’ve Got the Love is apparently one of the songs the president likes to groove to, but given the song’s worldwide approval it’s not an unpopular choice. Noah and the Whale’s hopeful hit Tonight’s the Kind of Night is a little more obscure, but given their rising profile in the US, with their songs used recently in TV shows like Cougartown and the trailer for The Descendents, it’s just another indicator of their continued success. American indie band and fellow famous citizens of Chicago Wilco and Canadians Arcade Fire can also find themselves on the playlist, which contains a mix of established and rising stars from multiple genres.
