Stone Roses Play First Gig in 16 Years

Eighties rockers the Stone Roses played their first concert in 16 years two nights ago at a free secret gig at Warrington Parr Hall.
The foursome were warmly welcomed back with a rapturous response from the crowd, which included Liam Gallagher. Playing an 11 song-set to the 11,00 fans with no encore, the Manchester legends didn’t play their signature closing number ‘I Am the Resurrection’.
The Daily Mirror reported that the intimate concert was “a comeback worthy of the hype!”, and magazines such as press such as NME and The Guardian also gave very positive reviews.
The Stone Roses were said to be well-rehearsed, which you’d expect after a break of 16 years, and no new material to speak of. However, the gig was only announced a few hours before it was due to start, on the band’s official site, so there was a hectic rush to head down to the venue to be in with a chance of seeing the band.
But even when fans had flooded to Warrington Parr Hall, to qualify for entry, they needed to bring the CD cover artwork from any Stone Roses’ album, an official band t-shirt, or a Heaton Park gig ticket with them. It was clear by the crowds that many locals were already aware of the gig, and had been for some time.
The show acted as warm-up gig for the quartet’s European tour in the summer, which kicks off in Barcelona. The band will play Manchester’s Heaton Park on June the 29th and 30th, and the 1st of July.
After announcing their reunion in October this year, The Stone Roses and have already started writing and recording a few tracks for their third album.
