Upcoming Indie Rockers
Tuesday 6th August 2013 | Tashnim
British six-piece indie pop band stormed into the UK indie charts and caught the attention of the public eye after trending worldwide on twitter. The new and upcoming band kick-started their career with their debut single 'Something New'.
The band Young Kato consists of six quirky Cheltenham lads; Tommy Wright – Vocalist, Jack Edwards, Joe Green, Joe Lever, Harry Steele and Sam Henderson. Having an equal passion for music is what has tied the band together.
At an early interview, Joe Lever says “We got together through school and stuff basically. Sam and Jack are step brothers and so kind of bought us together… half of us went to one school where we live and the other half went to another so we just kind of knew each other and wanted to start a band.”
Having released their self-titled EP with LAB Records, the lads climbed steadily to 31st place on the iTunes albums charts – on the day of release. Not bad. However, only a few knew the names of these talented kids.
It wasn’t until 8th April 2013 when Young Kato were featured on ‘Made In Chelsea’ during the opening episode of series 5 where they performed a gig at The Barfly, Camden in London, that the boys received publicity from across the globe. Trending worldwide on Twitter, Facebook and other social network sites; the public was buzzing with excitement.
Tommy said he and band members were stunned at the response on Twitter. “We started trending worldwide,” he added. “At one stage we were creeping up on Justin Bieber.”
The song that new fans were in awe over ‘Drink, Dance, Play’ reached over 100,000 views on YouTube and is still being watched and appreciated today.
There’s a lot of new material to look forward to from the lads. For instance, their new single 'Something Real' is currently available for download on iTunes. Also, according to twitter sphere, three new songs have been recorded.
The boys teased fans with their tweet “Recorded 3 tracks for our album this week didn't we?” on August 3rd. Certainly a wait worthwhile it will be!
The journey for Young Kato has just started, however it seems that the UK and beyond will hear much more from the young talents. Watch this space.
