DnB is about to go BOOM ...TOWN!

Drum and Bass | Monday 5th August 2024 | The Hub

Ever wondered what would happen if Mad Max threw a rave, Tim Burton designed the scenery, and the entire population decided to collectively lose their minds? Wonder no more, because Boomtown Festival Chapter 3 is just around the corner, and it's shaping up to be the most gloriously chaotic event in history.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Matterley Estate, Boomtown is more than just a festival. It's a sprawling, dystopian city comprised of eight districts, each more deliriously deranged than the last. Think of it as your favorite post-apocalyptic nightmare, only with better music, more glitter, and slightly less cannibalism.

Hold onto your sanity, because the Boomtown 2024 lineup has been revealed, and it's a doozy. Prepare your ears and soul for headliners like The Pharcyde, the iconic hip-hop group that will take you on a nostalgic trip through the 90s, and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, whose reggae beats promise to elevate your consciousness to new heights. This year's lineup ensures that whether you're a hip-hop head, a reggae lover, or someone who just likes to get lost in the music, there's something for you at Boomtown.

Why You Should Brace Yourself for Boomtown:

  • Fabio & Grooverider: If you haven't yet been baptized in the bass-laden waters of these drum and bass legends, prepare for a religious experience. Fabio & Grooverider will take you on a rollercoaster ride through the dark underbelly of dance music. You'll dance, you'll sweat, you'll question your life choices, and then you'll dance some more.
  • Ray Keith: The godfather of jungle music is here to remind you that sleep is for the weak. With beats that hit harder than your worst hangover, Ray Keith's set promises to be a visceral journey through the deepest, darkest corners of the jungle. Bring earplugs, or don't—your hearing is optional.
  • 12 Main Stages and 50+ Hidden Venues: Who needs maps when you have a festival designed like an Escher painting? Wander aimlessly through districts like “Dystopia,” “The Undercity,” and “Cyber City,” each hosting stages and secret venues that pop up like mirages in the desert. Find the music, or let the music find you.
  • Thousands of Performers: From fire-breathers to fortune-tellers, aerialists to anarchists, Boomtown’s performers are here to ensure you never experience a single moment of normalcy. These aren’t just acts—they’re harbingers of chaos.
  • The Atmosphere: Imagine a place where reality takes a backseat, and the absurd becomes the norm. Now add a heavy dose of dark humor, a sprinkle of surrealism, and just a touch of existential dread. That's Boomtown for you.

The lineups for individual stages are dropping, and they're sure to please drum and bass, dub, and reggae fans tremendously. Some highlights include:

Dillinja and the Valve Soundsystem: On Thursday, the mighty Dillinja will bring his almighty Valve soundsystem to the party, enlisting DJ Randall, Hype, Lemon D, Benny L, and MC GQ to serve up some of that delicious DnB fire.

Grand Central: Hosting an array of talent across multiple genres, with Ghetts, Skream, and Benga, and The Pharcyde on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, catch Greentea Peng and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley headlining.

The Origin Stage: For DnB enthusiasts, the Origin stage will blow you away with a Hospitality Takeover on Friday, DJ EZ, Break and MC GQ, and Kasra B2B with Enei. On Sunday, MC Navigator and Ed Solo celebrate 10 years of Jungle Cakes with Benny Page, Serial Killaz, and Garda among the jungle soldiers in support.

Nexus Stage: Rap fans can catch Children of Zeus on Sunday, while D Double E performs on the same day. Hak Baker graces Nexus on Friday, and East End Dubs and Shanti Celeste drop all things 130bpm over at the Zenith stage.

Zenith Stage: On Saturday, witness an old school hardcore masterclass with Ray Keith going B2B with DJ Rap for a special acid house set.

The Wrong Side of The Tracks: From Thursday to Sunday, this stage will feature a spectacle of talents like Redlight, Total Science, Pola & Bryson. On Sunday, Ray Keith brings 30 years of Dread Recordings to life with DnB legends Fabio, Grooverider, DJ Rap, DJ SS, and of course, Ray Keith himself.

So, grab your tickets, pack your rave gear, and prepare to lose yourself in the madness. Boomtown Chapter 3 is coming, and it’s going to be an unforgettable descent into beautiful, bewildering bedlam.
