Back 2 95 returns to the GSS Warehouse for a "legend" spectacular

Jungle | Friday 5th October 2018 |

If you know about old school and love to get down to some of the anthems of yesteryear, then you should know that there ain't no party, like a Back 2 95 party. Stepping up the game, and bringing in a trailer load of legends for one night only, Back 2 95 are back at their spiritual home, the Great Suffolk Street Warehouse to host an old school spectacular.

If your one of the lucky few to have experienced the start of Jungle or Garage here in London, then you know that this was an absolutely special time for the capital, giving birth to the legendary rave culture we now have today. This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the dedication and determination of some of the artists that are billed to be appearing at Back 2 95 on the 6th of October 2018. Below we look at some of the veterans that have shaped our beloved rave scene and of course, and are ones should be on your hit list if your down at the GSS warehouse.

Spoony & Mikee B (Dreem Team)

When the "Dreem teem" busted onto the scene back in the 90's through to the 00's, they quickly cemented themselves into every raver's heart up and down the country. From tearing up the airwaves at Radio One to smashing the summer over at Ayia Napa, these guys changed the game and paved the way for the Garage sound we now talk about today.

Wookie

Wookie, the renowned producer and remixer is widely regarded as one of the most influential founding fathers of UK Garage. First rising to prominence with his top ten hit “Battle” (S2S recordings) and his remix of Sia’s “Little Man” (Long Lost Brother Records), the sounds Wookie pioneered are now ruling the charts and dominating the airwaves. Having been cited as major influences for many modern producers including Disclosure, Rudimental, Skream and Benga, Wookie’s sound paved the way for the current breed of UK born electronic bass.

Matt Jam Lamont

Matt 'Jam' Lamont has been an intrinsic part of the UK Dance scene from its very inception. It was at South London's The Arches, where the burgeoning underground UK sounds and indeed Matt's career really took shape with his residency at the legendary Sunday venue.
It was at this seminal Sunday club that he hooked up with fellow DJ Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown, and together in 1993, they formed the now legendary production/remixing team, Tuff Jam. With his versatile DJing skills playing all styles of House, Garage, breaks, dubs, & D&B. Matt Jam remains a busy DJ, both in the UK as well as at international clubbing haunts across the globe.

Fabio and Grooverider

If you're into UK dance music and never heard of either Grooverider or Fabio, then it's safe to say you have been living in a bloody cave. These two are absolute legends and then some! They were the forefathers of the early Jungle Rave sound, they pioneered house music in the UK way before anyone else and continue to fly the flag for Drum and Bass today all over the globe. These Godfathers of Drum & Bass and legends of modern music who are idolised worldwide. Industry heavyweights, fans and artists regardless of genre will readily respect and praise the ongoing influence of the two. Over the years, Fabio & Grooverider’s influence on new and upcoming artists is simply incalculable: key figures such as Goldie, Bailey, Matrix, John B, Calibre & many more will attest to the influence of the pair as they first entered D&B and established their own career in music, ongoing. And to achieve a play of one of your tunes by Fabio or Grooverider: It was simply a pinnacle, a sign that you’d arrived.

MC GQ

The host with the most, truly an Emcee that has been there from the very start of Rave and Jungle. Less was always more with Gary GQ, hosting the all-night sessions at the now legendary AWOL night down at the old Paradise club in Islington back in the nineties.  The charisma, presence and distinctive sound of MC GQ is second to none. MC-ing at the top of the chain for more than 25 years has taken GQ to all the corners of the globe, seen him achieve chart success, and even given him the opportunity to establish his very own record label 'Emcee Recordings'.
