UKG revivalist Murlo launches new audio visual platform

House | Thursday 15th March 2018 | Alex

Murlo’s latest venture, Coil Records, launches this month with the release of wonky UKG burner 'Together' – the first result of an exciting new studio partnership with UK Garage prince Conducta.

Recently spotted in the studio with the likes of Sinjin Hawke, Zora Jones and Epic B, Murlo’s freewheeling collaboration with Conducta is a welcome taste of what’s to come from his new imprint.

“I’ve wanted to start my own label for ages,” Murlo explains, “but I feel like now is the perfect time. I’m really looking forward to having the freedom to drop music whenever I feel like it, and getting more of my visual work into the world too.”

As an artist renowned for creating vivid, audiovisual worlds, Coil Records represents a logical and long-overdue move from one of the UK’s most fascinating creative minds. The label provides a new outlet for not only music but also the visual output of Murlo, his friends and contemporaries.

Murlo’s credentials as a visual artist go from strength to strength too – he was recently featured as the cover artist of boutique illustration magazine Posterzine, and last month appeared as a guest speaker at Lighthouse Arts in Brighton, talking about the creative process behind his AV show.

He has created the visual accompaniment for his music since day one, flirting with CGI in 2015 with the video for ‘Into Mist’, painting a Renaissance-style cover for his Odyssey EP in 2016, before diving headfirst into full-hand animation with ‘Tired Of U’ last year.

The last few months have seen him touring as MURLO AV around the UK – a spellbinding new show that combines his music and visual work into an utterly captivating live experience – including a sell-out appearance at London’s prestigious ICA last autumn.
