Reggae Gold 2013 Out Now!
Tuesday 23rd July 2013 | jack
After last year’s success which marked VP records’ 20th edition, Reggae Gold is back with its 2013 update compiling some of the genres’ finest talents of the past and present.
The first disk looks back over some of the more contemporary hits from the last year and there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. The disc opens with Snoop Lions Reincarnated front track ‘Lighters Up’: An appropriate and somewhat inevitable selection featuring Mavado & Popcaan. Genre-hopping dancehall production group Major Lazer also have their say with their summertime club banger ‘Jah No Partial’. Other names you probably recognise from the dance world are Sean Paul with his bass-heavy bikini-athon ‘Body’ as well Gyptian whose ‘Wine Slow’ will leave you weak at the knees without quite knowing why.
The rest of Disk one takes a break from the charts with a nod to some of Jamaica’s sweetest exports including Queen Ifrica’s ‘Get Silly’, Morgan Heritage’s ‘perfect love song’ and feel-good number ‘You and Me’ courtesy of Busy Signal to name just as few.
Disk Two offers an education in classic reggae, looking back over the classics including a few hidden gems such as Tanto and Devonte’s hip hop infused reggae crossover ‘Everyone Falls in love’ as well as a few of those iconic tracks now firmly placed in the catalogue of reggae history (be sure to check out Greetings by Wailers producer Half Pint).
