Kings of Leon Return With Brand New Single 'Supersoaker'
When Kings of Leon released their fourth studio album Only By The Night in 2008, I don't think anyone, not even the band themselves realised how huge that album would become in the grand scheme of things. Although their previous efforts Youth and Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because Of The Times were generally regarded better albums, Only By The Night's monumental rock anthems 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' exploded on a global scale, gaining them millions of new fans from all corners of the world.
However, since then (despite the bands hard slogging), that success has been hard to replicate with the follow-up to Only By The Night, 2010's Come Around Sundown an altogether weak, unadventurous homage to pop-rock that lacked the firery grit and heart that their music had previously thrived on.
Whilst touring their fifth album, the band's credibility began to implode as internal problems between band-members began to surface as they were forced to cancel the rest of their American tour due to lead-singer Caleb's drink related problems. Following this the band announced a six month hiatus as they set about trying to regain their focus and musical drive.
During 2013, the band hinted that new music was finally on its way, and last night they duly abliged, premiering their brand new single 'Supersoaker' on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show as his highly coverted Hottest Record in the World.
Unlike the incongruent mainstream rock on their last album, 'Supersoaker' sounds like the band have gone full circle and returned to the deep, grungy sound that was so well recieved on their first couple albums; a move that has delighted many of the band's long-standing fans.
'Supersoaker' is available to download now and is the first offering from the bands upcoming sixth studio album, Mechanical Bull, out September 24th.
