The First Ever International Cassette Day Announced For Early Spetember

Indie | Tuesday 16th July 2013 | Cameron

Borrowing the same model used by the popular Record Store Day, the first International Cassette Day has been announced to take place on September 7th, 2013 in venues across London, with similar events also expected in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

The event has been described by the organisers as "a celebration of a physical product that is accessible, fun, cheap and still going strong in the turbulent current musical climate".

Although the cassette may be judged by many to be an outdated music format, the recent spike in vinyl sales has proved that music geeks across the country are slowly reverting back to the grassroots methods of listening to music in order to gain more fulfilment and satisfaction from the music they listen too.

Already announced, record companies such as Transgressive, Bella Union, Domino, 4AD and Wichita Recordings will be re-releasing cassette's from the likes of The Flaming Lips, At The Drive-In and Pulled Apart By Horses, while labels Kissability, SEXBEAT and more are set to release brand new casstte's from Los Campesinos, Fucked Up and a host of other artists.

There will also be events taking place at Rough Trade East store throughout the day with bands and DJ's keeping punters entertained.
