The One Love Reggae Festival
Now in its 10th year running, the One Love Festival which takes place in Tunbridge Wells in Kent aims to partake in keeping the UK reggae music scene strong and vibrant.
Artists including Junior Reid, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Jah9 have all performed at the festival and this year will see Capital Letters, Derrick Morgan and Channel One sound system among others.
The event originates from the One Love Peace Festival, which was set up in an attempt to link Jamaica’s feuding political parties, the festival has had some legendary performers, like Bob Marley and The Wailers. The festival is now hosted by influential Jamaican music producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee and Greensleeves Records, a reggae record label now celebrating 40 years in the industry.
Honouring reggae culture, the festival will show the 2013 documentary ‘I Am the Gordon’ which chronicles the life of legendary producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee. From his humble beginnings as a car mechanic and record plugger to one of reggae’s most well-known producers, in the 1970s.
Among the activities, the festival will host an art exhibition by DJ Daddy J who paints portraits of reggae artists under the name of Bunny King, his already exhibited in Jamaica, Scotland and Scarborough.
There will also be a space in the woodlands dedicated to relaxation and wellbeing with workshops including yoga, sound baths, meditations, communal drumming sessions and active art exhibitions.
Playing various types of reggae and similar genres from dub to dancehall and Ska to Lovers Rock, the One Love Reggae Festival brings reggae to the masses, with audiences from around the world all coming together to appreciate the sound in the UK.
