Bearcubs releases new EP, 'Chroma'
RnB/Hip Hop | Tuesday 8th November 2016 |
London-based producer Bearcubs, aka Jack Ritchie has previously been compared to the likes of Jamie xx.
His latest 5-track EP, Chroma, is a distinctly British take on glitchy RnB electronica made popular by the likes of Snakehips and Flume.
The title track and final track ‘Fades’ both possess a dreamy yet downbeat quality, featuring Ritchie’s own echoing vocals, reminiscent of King Krule member Archy Marshall’s solo projects.
The female vocals of Secaina Hudson give ‘So Long’ a slightly poppier feel, whilst US rapper Beau Young Prince makes an energetic turn of the grime-like beats of ‘Peaky’. Meanwhile, ‘Sirens Calling’ showcases a bassier sound, with updated shuffling Burial-style beats.
It’s mature sounding offering considering this is Bearcub’s debut full length EP - whilst he’s previously released two well-received singles, ‘Touch’ and ‘Paper Walls’, and collaborated with Tom Misch on the hit ‘Colours of Freedom’, Chroma is just the start of Bearcub’s musical output.
