Matt Wills drops Hurricane EP

Indie | Thursday 8th September 2016 | Christina

Singer-songwriter Matt Wills releases his Hurricane EP.

Born in Kent and now resident in London, Matt is a songwriter with a difference, seeking out collaborators from the worlds of electronic music and grime to turn his guitar compositions into something new. The Hurricane EP is his manifesto for an electronic singer-songwriter. It opens with a remix of the title track by Mad Decent’s Daktyl, who also produces the next track 'Overdose'. The "love song version" of 'Hurricane', features a guest appearance from Devlin, and an acoustic version of 'Put It All On Me' closes the EP.

Matt explains Devlin’s involvement; “Hurricane was the first track I wrote for my album – it’s about a girl I stupidly fell in love with and she was someone you just shouldn't fall in love with. The day we finished the tune, straight away I said 'I’d love to have Devlin on this'. I’ve always rated Devlin as one of the top MCs in the country and one of my favourite songs of his is 'Let It Go’. I felt like Hurricane had the same vibe of a guy openly talking about his love for someone but in an adult way. Not everything has to be spoken about so delicately.” He continues, “I love acoustic music, and I wanted to take the heartbreak and feeling from acoustic music and mix it with beats and a little bit of electronica. Electronic music doesn’t have to be upbeat; it can still have emotion, but it’s got to make you want to dance.”

Matt plays Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on September 21st, get tickets here. Buy Hurricane here
