The Story of Stanley "Tookie" Williams

As part of our Bad History series, we take a look the US justice systems handling of the Stanley “Tookie” Williams case.

Stanley Tookie Williams, co-founder of the Crips gang was executed via lethal injection on 31st December 2005.

He was killed Despite having renounced his gang life, he had gone on to write multiple books including children's books designed to keep kids out of gangs. He condemned gang violence and the lifestyle as a whole. He made such a turnaround in his life and was nominated 3 times for a Nobel Peace Prize. Williams was still executed by the Californian government.

One of the men who could’ve prevented his execution was Californian Governor at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger, He was the last port of call for clemency. The Governor denied the appeal.
