Bedroom Tax Declared Unlawful Other | Wednesday 27th January 2016 | Omari bedroom tax politics The Tories bedroom tax has been declared 'unlawful' by the appeal court as a result of its effects on vulnerable individuals. The Bedroom tax cut the benefits of a single mother who required a secure panic room installed into her council house to protect her from an aggressive ex-partner. It also affected the Rutherford family, who require an extra room to care for their grandson, who is the victim of a serious disability and requires 24-hour care in a specifically designed space. Both victims of the harsh tax measures were deemed to be 'under-occupying' their properties, despite their circumstances and were losing their benefits as a result. They will now be able to appeal to the supreme court on the issue. Omari Daniel
