With her latest single ‘Crazy Black Woman’ currently enjoying a resurgence and some strong support from the likes of BET, Capital Xtra and Bang Radio, London singer-songwriter Lola Godheld returns to with her brand new single ‘Words’, which is taken from her forthcoming debut EP Shades Of Me.
Having worked with the like of Paigey Cakey, Chip, MOBO Award winner Yolanda Brown and Grammy Award nominated Mali Music, plus learning the ropes while touring with Americal Idol icon and Grammy Award winner Fantasia Barrino, Lola Godheld has steadily been honing her artistry and musicianship, and by the sounds of ‘Words’ and ‘Crazy Black Woman’, she was born to make music.
Produced by Sampl and written by Lola, along with Azara Nenna and Utter Once, ‘Words’ is a dark-themed tale about miscommunication in love and broken promises. Told over a compelling and minimalist sonic bed of sparse drum patterns, dramatic synths and piercing string arrangements, 'Words' is all held together beautifully by Lola's stunning vocals.
According to Lola, the record is “about words and how powerful they are, especially when it's words from someone that matters. When used negatively, it can really break someone but when used positively it can give life. We should be careful of what we say because once words leave our mouths, we aren't aware of how far they can travel”.
