Graves Disease Can't Hold Me Back.. Missy Elliott Is Back!

Thursday 13th June 2013 | Noelle

In 2008 Hip Hop sensation Missy Elliot was diagnosed with ‘Graves Disease’, which began to affect her motor skills, followed by a string of symptoms; dizzy spells, lumps in her throat, mood swings, hair loss, bulging eyes and a fast heart rate.

Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease. It most commonly affects the thyroid, frequently causing it to enlarge to twice its size or become overactive, with related hyperthyroid symptoms such as increased heartbeat, muscle weakness, disturbed sleep, and irritability. It can also affect the eyes, causing bulging eyes (Exophthalmos). It affects other systems of the body, including the skin, heart, circulation and nervous system.

In an interview with people magazine she revealed that she couldn’t even drive or hold a pen to write. After undergoing radiation combined with medication Missy Elliott is back and she’s feeling better. Whilst she was gone; she was still working behind the scenes writing and producing music for others. But now she is working on her own album. I guess Missy Elliott has still got it. Graves Disease can’t hold her back.

Here are some of the singles that Missy Elliot has featured on since she returned; M I A – Bad Girls featuring Missy Elliot and Azealia Banks, Little Mix – How Ya’ Doing ft Missy Elliot, Fantasia – Without Me featuring Kelly Rowland & Missy Elliot, J Cole – Nobody’s perfect ft Missy Elliot, just to mention a few.

Missy Elliot killed her verses on all of these feature songs; so just imagine what her own album is going to be like. YES! Missy ‘Misdemeanor’ Elliott is back.

GRAVES DISEASE CAN’T HOLD HER BACK.
