New York-based reggae brotherhood New Kingston unveil the video for ‘Today’, from their third album Kingston City, released on 23rd February via Easy Star Records.
Following the release of 2013 full-length Kingston University, the reggae trio return with a war chest of carefully crafted Jamaican-inspired hits. With soulful vocal melodies aplenty and thumping basslines throughout, Kingston City features everything you’d expect from a modern reggae album - and a whole lot more.
From the get-go, brothers Stephen Suckarie, Courtney Panton, Jr. and Tahir Panton explosively demonstrate their ability to construct laidback yet powerful reggae hits with opening track ‘Today’. With help from their father Courtney Panton, Sr. on bass - a veteran within the Jamaican and US reggae scene - New Kingston combine the old school techniques of roots reggae together with a new breed of conscious roots dancehall.
The video, which opens with “Love & Unity, Keep Community”, clearly demonstrates both the band’s message and their love for Kingston. ‘Today’ shows just why New Kingston are generating such buzz in America and making waves across the globe. 2015 looks set to be their biggest year yet for the boys from Brooklyn.
