The Wu-Tang Clan @ Brixton O2, July 26.
They’re all geeks – I wrote a bit about that and ‘Family Reunion’ here.
Have you seen that awkward Jonah Hill thing where he’s with Method Man and thinks about his top 5 MCs? He puts Meth in there semi-convincingly and I’m not sure he deserves it, but the Clan is a reverse-supergroup – GZA’s ‘Liquid Swords’ was as arty as it gets, it’s incredible the Clan manage to head in the same direction.
Even sans ODB you can expect feral, gristly pass-the-mic-type rhyming despite the school-disco-like 7PM doors. It’s a chance to see clever guys going mental – anyone else having a timberlands-chess identity crisis would deal with it timidly, not with whole-heartedly dangerous live performances.
Bishop Nehru, Mic Righteous and DJ Semtex are supporting.
They’re performing 20 years worth of stuff, and that ‘Family Reunion’ track is a maybe/maybe not for their upcoming ‘A Better Tomorrow’.
Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult; tickets are going for £40.
