The Hurry and The Harm Has Been Released!

Indie | Wednesday 5th June 2013 | Abby

Finally the new masterpiece by City and Colour has been released!

Yesterday (4th June) was the official release date of City and Colour’s new album The Hurry and the Harm! City and Colour has once again produced a beautiful composition of music, but this time there is an even more captivating metaphorical prose.

Formerly the singer, song-writer, and guitarist of the hard-core rock band Alexis On Fire, Canadian Dallas Green now writes and sings beautifully melodic indie music under the name of City and Colour. This stage name simply developed from Green’s name – Dallas being his name and a city, and Green being his last name and the colour. Green has certainly evolved as an artist and with this new debut album he has once again proven himself as an artist with a true talent. This is the fourth album Green has produced and released, and it is evident that City and Colour’s reputation and solid definition has been shaped by his musical experience and evolution.

The Hurry and the Harm is a melancholic description of the everyday problems that people face. This album is personal, but still restrictive, Green establishes his dilemmas and quandaries, but he protects himself from revealing all. He is guarded and reluctant, and this becomes obvious as these melancholic words are brought to life with lighter strums of the guitar and the alterations of tone and tempo throughout some of the songs. ‘Thirst’ is one of the albums most interesting pieces, as the tempo is faster than most of the songs in the album, being given a somewhat jazzy tone and enjoying some fun guitar picking, but listening to the lyrics such as ‘An ocean of anger, flowing through me. Bloodstained and broken, for what I failed to see’, is just one example of this hurt of everyday experiences and his thirst for to be lead on the right path and to escape and shelter himself from  the hurry and harm that life brings. The entire album is emotive and delicate, a monumental collection for indie music.

Tickets have sold out for tonight’s City and Colour concert at the Bush Hall in London, and if you were lucky to get your hands on these tickets then the night will provide you with one poignant experience.
