Atmosphere has been one of the leading groups in the alternative hip hop and underground scene. The Minneapolis, Minnesota, born hip hop group was first formed in 1989 by rappers Slug and Spawn, as well as DJ/Producer Ant. Probably one of the most prominent figures in the underground scene today, Atmosphere has become one of those groups that are immediately known as soon as a new fan enters the genre. However, for the majority of their six studio album career, Atmosphere was largely overlooked. Branching off from the traditional forms of hip hop and staying away from the battle between west coast and east coast rappers, Atmosphere slipped under the radar while continuing to produce and hone their skills. After a number of hit releases ranging from 'Sunshine' to 'Trying to find a Balance', Atmosphere has only just started to get the recognition they deserve.
Atmosphere uses solemn beats with lighthearted rap to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere, no pun intended. Their music grant a moments respite in a busy world and provides you with a time of reflection.
That being said, I suggest you check out some of their songs. Though their new songs get more recognition, their old songs are still heavily underrated.
