Ayatollah's 'Avant Garde'(n) of opportunity

RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 11th March 2013 | Ronnie

Lamont Dorrel, also known as Ayatollah has just released Avant Garde, a cache of golden instrumentals after two years of hiatus. Ayatollah is a veteran producer who utilizes raw beats and creates masterpieces with them. The Queens, New York, based record producer is most well known for his past work with old school giants like Mos Def, Guru (from Gang Starr), Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, as well as many other well known MCs. With a new mix of creative beats in his recent album titled Avant Garde, these tracks are just waiting to be rapped over.

Avant Garden contains 14 tracks summing up to be about 40 minutes worth of content. The most popular tracks are 'Nothing But the Funk,' '3 In the Chamber,' 'Again,' and 'Cheech Wizard.' All four of these songs share totally different moods yet each is popular in its own right, not so surprisingly showing Ayatollah's wide range of diversity.

'Nothing But the Funk' is a destructive beat that includes various breaks into a chorus that repeats "I love you, I love you." The track is a soulful beat that has a rough raw sound to it which resonates ripples throughout your inner ears into your heart forcing it to bump in unison.

Ayatollah's next track '3 In the Chamber' is a cold killer. The track screams vengeance (not literally) in its icy old school beat. The dark tune echoes throughout your windows at night as the drapes are blowing maliciously outside with the cold lonely moon sitting in the background slowly being engulfed by a cloud. It truly is one of the sickest beats from him to date.

'Again,' is a chill patient beat that smiles blissfully at you as it calms a turbulent lightning storm. It promises power and solitudinous strength. You walk confidently through pillars of crumbling towers in an arid desert daring any of the desolate ruins or drifting sand to touch you.

'Cheech Wizard' is a complete contrast as it speaks of mystical underwater cities like Atlantis waiting to be explored. Theres hidden treasure behind the somewhat ominous towers and caves. What is lurking there? You don't know.

That is the nature of these creative tunes and that's just four of the fourteen tracks. Ayatollah reaches all planes of the world to musically resonate. However, Ayatollah has only created the territory, not the leaders. This leaves one question; who will be the masters of each land?
